Voice notes can be difficult to understand, especially in another language!

If you're not fluent in a second language, native speakers can be difficult to understand - especially if they're leaving you voice notes with tons of background noise!

For when you don't have time to decipher what they're saying, just forward us the voice note and we'll translate it into your language and send you a text transcript, totally free and without limits.

We can translate voice notes in all major languages, of lengths up to around 20 minutes.

It’s the perfect tool for immigrants who are learning the language, multicultural families, casual language learners, or tourists visiting a country that uses voice notes a lot.

How it works

Unfortunately Instagram makes working with voice notes a bit difficult - you can't forward them outside the Instagram app. Our voice note translation service lives on Telegram, as it provides a more open service, and is free to use.

However there's a way around this. You can use a third-party messaging app (we like Beeper) to receive your Insta voice notes, and forward them to us from there. Once you've got your Instagram and Telegram set up in Beeper (don't worry, it's easy), here's how to send us a voice note:

  • Long-press the voice note in Beeper
  • Choose the “forward” option
  • Select Baraphrase Translate as the recipient
  • Enjoy your translation! We will automatically translate the voice note into your default system language.

Do I need to sign up?

No! You can access our Telegram translation bot totally anonymously if you want to. We don't need your personal details, nor do we want them.

Is Baraphrase secure?

Yes! We only use the voice notes you send us to create translations, and don't collect or retain any sensitive information. The data you send us is also never used to train any AI models.

Why do I need to use Telegram?

Telegram provides the best combination of privacy, ease of use and low cost. Other chat platforms either charge to access their service (e.g. WhatsApp), or collect too much personal information (e.g. Messenger).

Are there usage limits?

For now, Baraphrase is totally free. In the future we may introduce paid tiers or advertising to support the service.

Can I send really long voice notes?

Yes! Voice notes of up to 20 minutes should work fine, however bear in mind very long voice notes may exceed Telegram's message size of 4096 characters.

Can I choose what language to translate into?

Not yet! For now, our bot will automatically translate any voice notes you send into your system default language. So, if your phone is in English, any voice note you send us will be translated into English.
